Video: Voting Machines can be Hacked

In the video below Zach De Gregorio from Wolves and Finance explains how easy it is to gain control of the voting machine using only a pen. Gee, I wonder if anyone will use these methods to cheat in the upcoming election?

DEF CON Hacking Conference is the longest-running and largest underground hacking conference in the world. It takes place once a year. Founded in 1992 by the Dark Tangent, DEF CON is renowned for its intense focus on computer security and hacking. Below is a video that shows just how easy it is for Defcon conference attendees to hack the voting machines that are used in the United States elections.

One of the hacked devices was the AccuVote TSx, created by Premier Elections Solutions, the company formerly known as Diebold. In 2016, versions of that machine were used in some jurisdictions in 20 states, and statewide in Alaska, Georgia, and Utah.

The TSx could be hacked because its executable file, which controls the machine’s operation, was connected to a local network — a known vulnerability. But the hackers also found a simple way to disable the machine: Its battery controller could be easily opened and an unsoldered chip could be removed, disabling the machine entirely.

Harri Hursti, a renowned voting machine hacker and founder of Nordic Innovation Labs, who helped organize the DEFCON event said, “It was well established before that all the machines are hackable, the questions were how fast, and how many new ways people will find? I was surprised how fast the first machines were hacked – it all happened in real time.”

Professor J. Alex Halderman has made a career studying electronic voting security. His research has changed the concept of stolen elections from theory to reality.

J. Alex Halderman, is a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of Michigan and has been deeply involved in examining the vulnerabilities of voting machines and advocating for election security. This is what he discovered.

Georgia Voting Machine Vulnerabilities:
During an ongoing trial, Halderman demonstrated how a voting machine could be tampered with in mere seconds using everyday items like a Bic pen and a $10 smart card!!

Expert Report on Voting Machines:
Halderman was given access to the voting machines by a federal judge. In his report, he argued that the state’s ballot-marking devices are vulnerable to election fraud, including vote switching. His warnings emphasized that Georgia’s voting machines could be manipulated by bad actors within minutes.

His investigation illuminated glaring susceptibilities within Georgia’s voting infrastructure, raising questions about the reliability of the Dominion voting equipment used across the state. While state officials maintain that the voting machines are secure, Halderman’s testimony suggested otherwise.

I think it is pretty clear that there will be massive cheating taking place in 2024 unless something is done about it
