Bralalalala: Shattering Barriers with Sonic Fury
Bralalalala is a pioneering transgender rock and metal musician based in California. Starting in the late 1990s she is known for her unique sound which blends heavy/groove/thrash metal with melodic and complex compositions. She has been described as unmatched in the industry for her originality. She writes all her own music, sings, plays guitar and bass on her albums.

Her discography includes her debut album Well Come to the Galaxy (1997, re-recorded in 2018 as Welcome to the Galaxy), Sequence of Events (2018), Answers to All Problems (2018), and Intangibles (2024). These albums feature drummer Dirk Verbeuren of Megadeth and producer Chris Rakestraw, also known for working with Megadeth as well as bands like Danzig and Motörhead.

Her advocacy began even before her music career took off, notably with her testimony at California’s first trans rights hearing in San Francisco in 1994, which helped secure the city’s landmark 1995 legal protections for transgender individuals.

As Hollywood’s first openly transgender, award-winning musician (Los Angeles Music Awards, 2000, 2005, 2015), Bralalalala’s never hid who she is, facing down industry discrimination.

Her 1994 testimony at California’s first trans rights hearing helped spark historic protections, mirroring the activism woven into her music. Her resilience is further evidenced by her legal victories, including high-profile cases against a supervising art director from major films like Iron Man and The Amazing Spider-Man for sex assault and malicious prosecution. These triumphs underscore her strength in confronting adversity, both personal and professional, while remaining steadfastly independent. Choosing to release her music through her own company, Bralalalala has navigated a tough industry proving that talent and determination can prevail against the odds.
